FIFA 23 review

The usual time of each year when the new version of the football game FIFA is released, although this has been happening since FIFA first appeared but still fans of the game everywhere are waiting for it tirelessly. This year it is full of feelings and emotions, as this is the last game in the series that will carry the name FIFA and then switch to EA Sports FC, so this release marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new era... Let's quickly get into the details of our FIFA 23 review.

playing style

Just like the case in the series in the last years, the changes to the gameplay are minor, and to be honest I do not believe that the annual games - that is, those that are released every year - can achieve a breakthrough in the level of playing style, especially as they use the same engine, which is exactly what happened in This year's version.

Gameplay in FIFA 24 seems noticeably slower than last year, most notable is the change in the game's "acceleration" system, where a player like Harry Maguire despite his slow pace can handle faster attackers .

What I'm trying to say is that speed is not an important element in this version, but can I say it is more balanced? No, in fact the defender in most of the time "99%" of cases is faster to reach the ball than the attacker for some reason, even if the attacker is closer to the ball, I think this will be fixed with an update.

The Hard Slide Tackle or the floor tackles in general are well done, I'm a bit aggressive and I've always liked the ball - no matter how hated it is in my friends - but don't worry, if you're like me you'll like the way the tackles are in this version.

There is also a whole new system for set pieces, from penalty kicks and free kicks to corners.. In fact, it's more flexible than before and more versatile, you can now kick the ball from under the blocking wall when playing a free kick... or use a player to sit behind the wall like what happens In real games lately.

Back in FIFA 2017, the system of corners and free kicks was changed, which I thought was great and did not originally need any modifications, which was coming from the perspective of the first person to the perspective of the top camera with a circle in the middle to direct the "lift", and frankly, that was not the best way, and this year I liked First perspective and lift control are back 'closer' to FIFA 16.

We come to the worst aspect now in FIFA 23, which is the passing system, in general there is a problem with the passing system in the game, short passes are not a chain, you cannot play from one touch most of the time, in addition to that, the “riches” through passes are disastrous and useless and most often go to the legs For defenders who have priority in cutting the ball, there is a new pass method using the L2 button which allows the player to play the ball "with the outside of his foot" which is great in terms of execution and the only one I like about this version when it comes to passing.

The passing system in FIFA 24 is completely destroyed, fortunes are useless and don't go as you want them to, and players with better passing traits are no different than others with lower stats.

The same goes for shooting and crosses using the 'outerfoot face', and it looks like OverPowerd at the moment will need nerf in future updates I think.

As for the shooting system, there is nothing new. In fact, I found it very balanced, as it allows the player to kick the ball hard, but it takes time to implement. Also, the shot turns at the time to “Manual” that is, you will need extreme accuracy using analogues to direct the angle, otherwise in most cases it will go The ball will hit one of the fans in the stands.

The funny thing is that the camera does “zoom”, when a player starts to take this kick as if I am playing “Captain Majid” and watching “The Tiger’s Kick” or watching an episode of the anime series “Slam Dunk”, fortunately this setting can be changed from the settings menu.

In a way, the field looks crowded and stifled and there is no room for space in most matches.. Interceptions are a headache... Defensive midfielders always have the advantage in all tackles and interceptions that occur automatically and there are some strange errors in the behavior of the AI of the players both in the movements or interventions.

Goalkeepers this year have a lot of new "animations" and new ways to block balls, but in general they still make the same mistakes, scoring goals in this version is easy and you will have to rely on the strength of your defense and prevent the opponent from reaching your goal than relying on your goalkeeper's ability to tackle However, this did not bother me.

What's new in the game modes?

This version didn't get any of the new modes or game modes, unfortunately, even at the level of development on the modes themselves this part is very poor in terms of new improvements, I think this is because of the "World Cup" mode which will be released later before or with the start of the World Cup competitions The world will be in Qatar next November.

FIFA 23 review

1. Ultimate Team

Ultimate Team, the most popular game in the game, was the most notable change to the new chemistry system, which gives players new ways to create teams instead of focusing on a single country or league. Now we can see a variety of squads that can play out.

In addition, one of the most important changes is also the "Moments" system, a new set of individual challenges that allow you to earn coins, card packs and loan players, in other words a new way to build your team without having to buy FIFA points, however this was not enough To satisfy me it requires time and rewards are not guaranteed as with all packs or bonus items in Ultimate Team.

FIFA 23 may be more generous with freebies than previous versions, but Ultimate Team remains at its heart a demonic loot chest designed to get players to buy FIFA points or card packs on a regular basis and is EA's goldmine as the company makes huge profits from those transactions.

My biggest problem with this phase is that every year I need to start from scratch, everything you do during the year is wasted and I find that this phase turned out years ago to be "pay to win", or depends entirely on luck, if not To get a player at an expensive price, you will need time to get a strong squad, and believe me, whatever your skills in the game are, you will not be able to outperform the teams that have stronger players even if your opponent’s level is lower.

2. Pro Club and Voltage

Pro Club and Volta have been merged into this year's edition, so the progression becomes one which is a nice idea especially since Volta is almost deserted and the Pro Club has needed some revamping like adding tattoos to your player but in general this is not essential.

The player development system is still the same from the previous part, with a set of points that you get with playing matches and progressing in the level and then you distribute them to your player according to the method and according to the position you play in.

3. Career Mode

Career Mode, or Career Mode, was and still is my favorite in the series. In fact, this phase takes you on a journey away from the nervous tension that occurs in the other phases, and this year there are also additions that made the Career Mode experience better.

This year two full leagues of women's teams have been added to the game - unfortunately they can't be played in Career Mode - but it's great to see the expansion of the game's content but I was hoping it would focus on the more popular modes, developing on them rather than trying to include female elements Statistics show that only 4% of FIFA 24 players have played at least one match with female players.

I tried to enter a women's team match with FIFA 24 during the review period and on the day of the game's release but had no luck finding a competitor...the truth is that no one plays for women's teams most likely!

FIFA 23 review

The graphics and atmosphere of the game

The graphics in this part are better than ever, from the lighting of the stadium to the details of the turf affected by tackles, player movements, net movement physics, and so on.

The details of the players' faces are 'amazing' but perhaps the only negative comment at this point is that EA has been a little stingy in scanning players' faces, players like 'Anthony', 'William Saliba', 'Darwin Nunez', 'Arajo', 'Conde' and others don't have it. Real faces in the game, perhaps as usual the faces of some players will be updated with upcoming updates successively.

As for the atmosphere of the game, it is amazing, the way the players enter and the pre-match shots and even during the match itself, but the problem is that most players will not see that, in the Ultimate Team mode, all matches look the same, most FIFA players prefer to skip the celebrations and cinematic clips, but If you want advice, enjoy some time in the Career Mode with the atmosphere of the English Premier League and the Champions League with the theme of each tournament.. and the World Cup mode when it comes out later.

That's the best of FIFA 24 but I hope you'll understand my point in the next lines, in a competitive game it's all secondary and what matters is the gameplay or the gameplay - which was hugely frustrating if you wanted an opinion - all those details don't affect me at all. Playing style .. For example, when a player tries to shoot or lift a ball and the defender is in the penalty area, you will find that he tries to put his hand behind his body so that it does not hit him... This is beautiful and realistic and gives a good shape to the game .. But the truth is that the game does not have a "hand touch" in the first place .

If the ball hits a player's hand for any reason, nothing will be counted, and with our arrival in FIFA 24 so far, the developer has not been able to develop a technique for one of the most important basic laws in the football game! Also, most of the matches nowadays are led by a "referee" of the fairer sex, I have no problem... But this doesn't really happen the way it happens in the game and I don't know if it's a bug or it's intentional.

Platform game performance and HyperMotion 2

Regarding the technical performance of the game on the platforms, the game uses the same engine “Frosbyte” to run the game, which is the same engine that has been used in the game since FIFA 17, but since the emergence of the new generation of home platforms, specifically with FIFA 21, HyperMotion technology has appeared.

The technology uses a machine learning algorithm to generate a huge number of "animations" and write new animations in real time, making every match more life and not just a set of pre-recorded animations, and with this year's version the technology appeared with its second version, HyperMotion 2.

So the game is now more "demanding" than ever, in my experience with the PlayStation 5 version it was working at 60 frames per second during gameplay and 30 frames in cinematics or pauses during the game, using any available resolution.

It's a little frustrating considering the power of these devices in terms of hardware, don't you agree? In fact, the game looks "smooth" and I did not find any "technically" problem with it on the PlayStation 5, and the 60 frames fit the game.

The PC version has huge problems

As for the PC version, this is another matter. For the first time, it supports HyperMotion technology. In the last two years, PC gamers have been getting older generation versions. But besides it has become a bit demanding on the computer - given that it is a sports game but it is not polished at all "in terms of optimization", no matter what your computer's capacity, the game will work poorly on it.

At the time of writing, NVIDIA or AMD has not released any drivers to support the game so it could happen in the past few days, or until an update comes out from EA to fix the game's technical issues...but I won't allow myself not to talk about this to you.

This year for the first time, EA has put the game's settings indoors, not outside as it has been since the new FIFA era, but every change requires restarting the game and in fact this is off-putting and also considered lazy by the developer at the same time.

There is an obvious problem with Anti-Aliasing in the PC version compared to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions, where the elements from afar look like "sharp", the picture is not smooth at all as if I'm playing on a lower resolution, and this setting itself is not in the menu Game settings, but it can be accessed through the fifasetup file located inside the Documents file by raising the MSAA value from 0 to 1.

There is also a frame drop that happens every time the image turns from a gameplay perspective to a cinematic, and it shows more clearly when going to a corner kick game where the frames drop below 30 frames, it happens for seconds and comes back live but still annoying, on medium devices and lower From the medium, it may last for seconds, and after the return, what is known as Speed Up Lag occurs.. That is, after returning, you will see what happened quickly - as if on X2 - during the cut and at this time you will not be able to control your player or team.

Also, the image stutters while playing at times, or what is known as stutters, and the reason for this is that the consumption of the graphics card and the processor in the game or what is known as Utilization is exaggerated, it is frustrating for PC owners and needs urgent intervention, as for the console versions they work well Very stable and looks even better "graphically" than the PC version which is weird.

FIFA 23 Final Evaluation

Overall, FIFA 23 is good but it doesn't offer anything new. The "slow" gameplay may appeal to people who like to build from behind and pass fast but for me I found it boring especially since the game has an unpolished passing system which is the worst of all Since FIFA 11, which contradicts the idea of a slow pace of the game.

Otherwise, the new graphics, player details, and animations thanks to Hypermotion 2 were the best of this version, with a new way to play set pieces, updated missile shooters and cross-platform support. However, EA only included cross-play with a limited number of game modes. Playing until you can't enter with your friend in Co-Op mode or play the Pro Club or Volta mode.

In any case, the changes that have taken place in the game in recent years lead us to one certain fact that the Frosbite engine - used in the development of the game - is not the best for dealing with a competitive sports game … or it will not be able to provide more than that in terms of gameplay, this is an established fact that will not It changes until EA decides to ditch that engine and develop its game with a new one that's much smoother when it comes to player movement and frequent docking between them.

Also the fact that FIFA is the only entry for football games at the moment, and the lack of a competitor has allowed EA to take more comfort in the slow development the game has experienced in the last five years, so we say FIFA 23 is good for "no other game better".

FIFA 23 can be classified as an arcade game and not a simulation as it claims, you will enjoy it with your friends and in career mode a lot but on the competitive side it lacks all the essential elements of competitive games.

Finally, it is unacceptable for the FIFA series to continue its annual launch, especially since its price has become $70, and thus perhaps the rights crisis and the entry of new competitive games on the line such as the UFL and the new FIFA game expected to return football games to their previous state next year.
